Tutorial: How to get free SSL certificate on free hosting

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I would like to present you Free SSL Space (freessl.space).

We are providing free 90 days certificates with unlimited renewals.

They are issued by our partner Sectigo CA (sectigo.com), formerly Comodo CA - the biggest CA in the world.

Why our certificates are better than Let's Encrypt:

  • IDN support
  • more compatible (99,6% devices, much more than Let's Encrypt),
  • easy getting.

A little bit more of the last point - unfortunately, it's too complicated to get Let's Encrypt on free hosting - antibot system doesn't support it.

With Free SSL Space you can obtain certificates via HTTP as well, via Mail or CNAME. Last two variants are good for free hosting.

Instruction on CNAME verification on iFastNet:

1. Go to your vPanel => SSL/TLS => Configure SSL => Generate Key/CSR

2. Fill the form, than copy CSR request

3. Go to freessl.space, enter your domain.

4. Tick "I have my own CSR" and paste your CSR.

5. Choose DNS method.

6. Set the CNAME record in vPanel and click Verify domain. Notice: it may not be verified from the first attempt, wait for the second one.

7. Certificate is ready, copy Your Certificate code into SSL/TLS in vPanel.

8. UPDATE: wait up to several hours - iFastnet changes your SSL not so quick.

Just try it!

Thank you for the tutorial, the certificate works great!

This guide is helpful for free users,

My problem are:

1. No SSL  (https green lock)

2. To use SSL green lock, I have to enable my cloudflare - Which disables my site email because MX record and other domain settings such as SPF and CName when CF is active. (Your site email will can send but can't receive email because of Cloudflare if you are a free reseller).

Which means I have to choose between Cloudflares SSL or Email (Because only one will work in free plan).

But with freessl.space got both SSL and Email working together (without having to use Cloudflare that disables my site email).

The only difficulty I have with freessl.space is the interface, I can't copy the codes such as the CNAME text and the Certificate codes, they are not clickable so I have to right-click and "View Page Source" for me to copy the codes provided, I hope they can improve that.  It's free and the renewal is unlimited.  Let's encrypt and sslforfree won't work here because byet is blocking bots for verification, freessl.space allows verification using CName which free users have access to which makes free SSL posible withh free hosting.

And my favorite part is, a free static seal, it makes my free reseller site looks more legitimate :)

Update: I have use that service again for my forum site, I can now click and copy the codes from the DNS verification bar and Certificate code text boxes, it is now fixed.  They have seem to fixed the issue in short time :)

Thanks for the tutorial! I was struggling to get ZeroSSL working, until I found this. Now added everything and just waiting for it to get activated :)

By the way, what is Free SSL Space? How/why have they decided to provide certificates for free?

The title is pretty self-explanatory. It was @hostronavt's wish to offer SSL's for MOFH resellers and other people, so I assume that he made it through the help of companies such as Sectigo and GoGetSSL to give people this opportunity.

Oh I see. That's cool! Thanks @hostronavt :)

One question: some of my friends' browsers don't seem to accept the certificate ("Invalid certificate" or "Certificate issuer could not be verified" or something like that). Is that because this is a new service and nt everyone has added support yet? It would be good if you could have a list of "not supported by" like Let's Encrypt does, so I can have an idea of what works and what doesn't.

It explains really easy.

iFastNet does not support CA bundle, so it might be caused by that - compability is less, you can PM me with your browser, I'll check it. But you will have the same problem with Let's Encrypt, so there is no another way.

It gives me error i mean.

There is Source and Destination Where and what should i put on them?

On Free SSL Space you have something like this:

subdomain.yourdomain.org CNAME something

Source is subdomain, and destination is the big domain after CNAME (something)
